The Stickney Fire Department came into existence in 1967. Prior to that date, the village was serviced by the City of Berwyn. The department presently consists of one full-time chief and approximately forty part-time/paid on-call members. There are four personnel on duty at the fire station at all times to take care of walk-in patients and to aid in the quick response of emergencies. The Stickney Fire Deparment averages 1200 calls per year between Fire and EMS. The village has a class 4 rating with the Insurance Service Organization, an organization which grades fire departments to help determine insurance premiums on residences and businesses. The department provides not only fire protection, but also ambulance service and other services to village residents, such as lock-out of resident’s home, checking smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, and assisting in community affairs. Periodic lectures are given to students in our local schools on fire safety and instructions are given to the teachers in the use of C.P.R. The SFD has two ambulances in service. This provides a back-up when one ambulance is on an extended call or when repairs and/or maintenance are needed. The Fire Prevention Bureau of the department performs routine inspections of all industrial and commercial buildings in the corporate limits of the village. The department co-purchased with six other municipalities, a fire safety trailer to help instruct young students about safety in the home and to show them the proper use of the phone and also evacuation procedures in case of emergency.
Free transportation by ambulance to or from the hospital if you are disabled provided there is not an ongoing emergency at that time. Call the Police non-emergency number for transportation at 708-788-2131. Note that this is not a taxi service; it is for non-ambulatory patients who cannot walk.
Free blood pressure check at the fire station between 8:00am and 4:00pm.
Child car seat inspection to make sure they are usable and installed correctly, however you need to call for an appointment. Please plan ahead, the certified child car seat inspectors are not always available.
