Recreation Areas

There are three recreational areas located in the village. 

"Kiddy Park" in the 4200 block of Oak Park Avenue. 

Haley Park on 40th and Grove. 

 

The largest park, "Veterans Memorial Park", is located on Ridgeland Avenue from 39th to 43rd Streets. There is playground equipment, soccer fields, tennis courts, a pavilion, and a baseball field named Rench Park. The Stickney Baseball Association fields re-located in this area.

Stickney Little League:

The Stickney Little League provides baseball programs for boys and girls from the ages of 7 to 18 years of age.  The park and fields are located at 42nd Street and Ridgeland Avenue. The new fields were constructed in 1992 through a joint venture of the Village of Stickney, the Water Reclamation District and the Stickney Baseball Association. SFL Soccer Program:

A joint venture between Stickney, Forest View and Lyons Parks & Recreation.  No experience necessary.  No out of district fees. The spring recreational program is open to all boys and girls ages 5 - 14 of age.  Spring season begins in April 12th - June 14th.  Register at the Stickney Village Hall or call P&R office to make an appointment.  All games are played in Stickney at 41st and Ridgeland. Fee for first family member is $55, $50 for brothers and sisters. Anyone interested in sponsoring a team, coaching, refereeing or has a concern or question can contact Activities Director Sheri Young at (708) 749-7505. All coaches and referees must agree to a background check.

Sixth Annual Easter Egg Hunt
Saturday, March 22nd:      
Haley Park 40th and Grove.

Pre-Registration is required and begins March 3rd - March 17th.
Registered children will be eligible for Easter raffle.
Proof of residency is required.

Drury Lane Children's Theatre 
Thursday, March 27th 

All children 5th grade and under are invited to Drury Lane Children's Theatre for a 10:00 a.m. performance of the Wizard of Oz with lunch to follow at McDonald's. Adult or parent supervision is required for children eight years and younger. Ticket price is $8.50. Bus transportation will be provided. Participants are responsible for their lunch at McDonald's. A waiver must be signed before registration can be accepted.

Skateboard Park -Veterans Memorial Park

With safety inspection completed and weather permitting the skateboard park will open mid April. This year we are planning to purchase a new piece of equipment to replace an aging piece that will be removed. A season opening celebration will take place. More information will be forthcoming.

Volleyball 

Our co-ed recreational sand volleyball program for youth sixth grade to twelfth will start in August. Games will be played twice a week at Veterans Memorial Park. Registration begins in May. Fee is $25.00 per person.

Golf Lessons

Hey, kids, do you want to learn to play golf? Plans are in the works for lessons at Fresh Meadow Golf Club in Hillside. The program is for youth five to sixteen years of age. Please call the P&R office if interested.

 DJ in the Park -Youth Nights
Friday, September 5th 6:30 -8:30 p.m. 

We are again planning to have two free Friday Youth Nights at the Veterans Memorial Park Pavilion. The dates are June 6th, and September 5th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Music provided by Fred Stadtler Productions. There will be games for prizes, free raffle and refreshments.

Lil Squirt Soccer Returns  (Click for an Application)

Open to boys and girls three and four years of age. This introductory program will begin in June -July at Veterans Memorial Park. Due to enrollment size we reserve the right to schedule session placement. Registration begins in May. If  interested in coaching contact the P&R office.

Youth Tennis program (Click for an Application)
Monday June 16 th –July 2nd .  

Coach Wally Johnson returns for our youth tennis program.

Games will be played Monday & Wednesday mornings at Veterans Memorial Park 41st & Ridgeland.
Registration begins in May. 

Acting Classes Coming (Click for an Application)

This six-week program is for children five to sixteen years of age. Participants will explore the world of imagination through theatre games, creative play, theatre terminology, improv games, performance techniques and more. There will be three sessions. Participants will meet once a week for one hour. Each class will have a final performance for family and friends to attend. Call the P&R office if interested. Date and fee TBA.

Bus Trips

Senese's Winery & Comedy Club -Adults 18 yrs. & older -Evening trip -Date, ticket price TBA.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular-Rockettes -Rosemont Theatre, Illinois.
  November 20th 2:00 p.m. performance.  
Also we will be going to lunch before the performance at Old Country Buffet.  Price TBA

Home for Christmas Show & Luncheon Monday, December 81h -Lexington House. More information will be forthcoming.

Stickney Residents Picnic
Saturday  July 12th Noon -5:00 p.m. 

Stickney 'Parks and Recreation will be holding their 81h Annual Resident Picnic at Veterans Memorial park at 41st street and Ridgeland Ave. on Saturday, July 121h from noon to 5:OO p.m. 

Planned activities will include DJ, pony rides, moonwalk, clowns, children's activities, amusement rides, and delicious food. 
Morton College Massage Therapy class will return and give complimentary massages. 
At no cost to resident's participation is limited to immediate family members residing in Stickney. 
Pre-registration and proof of residency is required. 
Registration begins on Monday June 16th at the Stickney Village Hall weekdays 8:00 -4:00 p.m. 
Deadline to register is Monday, July 7th.  For evening appointments contact P&R office. 
A volunteer list will be available in June at the Village Hall.

Halloween 

Plans are under way for our annual Halloween festivities. We are always looking for volunteers to help, if interested please contact P&R office.
