Licenses and permits are required for numerous business and activities, only some of which are listed below.

Residents of the village may use village facilities, pavilion and park areas upon application. Public use of village facilities is restricted to residents of the village and organizations which are composed mainly of village residents. Applications must be submitted five (5) working days in advance of the requested date and a deposit of $50.00 is required of which $25.00 will be refunded after (3) working days provided all conditions of the permit are satisfied.  Deposit may be in cash or check, if by check  there must be two separate checks of $25.00 each.  One check will be used as rent for the pavilion.  The other will be returned if the premises is left in good condition.  In addition, a disclaimer form must be signed.

The village does permit residents of a particular block to barricade a street to conduct a block party. Permission to have a block party must be requested in writing to the village board thirty (30) day prior to the event. An application must be completed and the street to be blocked must be identified. A single contact person must be named and disclaimer form must be signed.

A special permit is required to conduct a garage, yard, or household sale. The applicant must be the owner of the premises. Only one such type of this sale is permitted a year. The sale is limited to two consecutive days and applications must be submitted two weeks prior to the sale for approval. There is no charge for this type of permit.

All solicitation or door-to-door canvassing, whether by a not-for profit organization or any business, must receive prior approval by the village board not less than seven (7) working days in advance. Solicitors and canvassers are required to wear some type of badge which identifies the person as well as the name of the organization or business and are required to register at the Police Department on the day of soliciting or canvassing.

Tree trimming and removal of trees on public grounds, including parkways, is done by the village at no cost to the resident. Homeowners who wish a tree which is diseased or hazardous removed from the parkway must sign-up on a list maintained at the Village Hall.

Voter registration is available at the Village Hall. Residents are eligible to vote upon reaching the age of eighteen (18) and registering, and having lived in the village at the current address for at least thirty (30) days. Persons changing addresses, whether within the village itself, or having moved in from another town within Cook County must notify the voter registration office in the Cook County Building in Chicago.
