Hawthorne Race Course:

The Hawthorne Race Course, located at 3501 S. Laramie, is the oldest track in the State of Illinois, and the 5^th oldest in the United States. It was 100 years old in 1991. It is presently the only completely family-owned track in the United States.

Metropolitan Water Reclamation District:

Beautified by grassy hills and planted with flowering trees and shrubs, the world’s largest water treatment facility is located in the eastern area of the village, basically between Central and Ridgeland Avenues, and occupies almost 50% of the village area. An average of 810 million gallons are treated each day. The district has made a concentrated effort to be a good neighbor through extensive landscaping and odor-elimination measures.
